REPRESENTASI PEREMPUAN DALAM FILM DANGAL (SEBUAH ANALISIS DISKURSUS KRITIS)

Abstract


ABSTRACT

This observation aims to cognize how feminism is represented and analyzed in movie “Dangal”. Film as one of the biggest medium of mass media makes advocating ideologies and/or movements through film is a great choice. “Dangal” by director Nitesh Tiwari proves it with the feminism that they slipped in. Feminism is an ideology and movement that share the common goal to achieve equal rights for women. The method used in this observation is critical discourse analysis by Norman Fairclough with qualitative descriptive approach and full object observation. By the time the observation is done, the writer find out that women is represented in this film by the scenes in which analyzed with textual data and classified into to aspects; social aspect and professional aspect. The author also analyzed the research object by seeing the discourse practice and sociocultural discourse. Thus, the author concludes that feminism gained a lot of recognition and development after the Phogat sisters, Geeta and Babita, became World Wrestler Champions. The society in India who follow a patriarchal system finally see that women can also compete in professional works outside of family. The same situation can be found in Indonesia.

ABSTRAK

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui bagaimana representasi perempuan dikonstruksikan dalam film “Dangal” dan perbandingannya dengan realitas keadaan perempuan di India dan Indonesia ini.. Film sebagai salah satu medium media massa yang paling berpengaruh menjadikan advokasi ideologi atau kepercayaan melalui film menjadi ampuh. Film “Dangal” karya sutradara Nitesh Tiwari mengandung advokasi feminisme, sebuah gerakan atau ideologi yang memperjuangkan persamaan hak bagi perempuan. Penelitian ini menggunakan teknik penelitian analisis diskursus kritis pendekatan Fairclough dengan tipe penelitian pendekatan deskriptif kualitatif serta pengamatan secara menyeluruh pada objek. Dari penelitian yang dilakukan, peneliti memperoleh hasil bahwa representasi perempuan dalam film “Dangal” dapat dilihat dari potongan-potongan scene yang dianalisis secara tekstual yang dapat dikelompokkan dalam aspek sosial dan profesional. Peneliti juga menganalisis pada level praktik diskursus dan praktik sosiokultural. Diperolah bahwa emansipasi perempuan mengalami perkembangan di daerah Haryana dan India setelah Geeta Phogat dan Babita Phogat menjurai kontes gulat dunia, kesuksesan dua bersaudari ini membuat masyarakat berpenganut sistem patriarki mulai melihat bahwa perempuan dapat bersaing di dunia profesional di luar ranah urusan domestik keluarga. Keadaan serupa ditemukan di Indonesia.
