Indonesian Contemporary Nursing Journal <p><strong>Indonesian Contemporary Nursing Journal</strong> is an international scientific journal with focus in an ongoing discussion related <strong>contemporary</strong> nursing issue in <strong>Indonesia</strong> and we also welcome any studies <strong>beyond Indonesia</strong> which contribute to <strong>global nursing and health practices.</strong></p> <p>The journal was first published in 2016 and is owned by <strong>Faculty of Nursing, Universitas Hasanuddin</strong>. Relationship of Knowledge and Perceptions Towards Triage Skills on Nurses in The Emergency Department <p><strong>Introduction:</strong> The large number of patients visiting the emergency department requires triage system. The implementation of triage really requires the skills possessed by nurses who have good knowledge and positive perceptions about triage. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between knowledge and perceptions of nurses with triage skills on nurses in the Emergency Department of RSUP Dr. M. Djamil, Padang. <strong>Method:</strong> This study is a quantitative study with an analytical descriptive type using cross-sectional approach. The sampling technique used convenience sampling technique with the criteria of emergency department nurses who work in the triage area with respondent participated as 34 nurses. Data collection using instruments, as knowledge questionnaire, perception questionnaire, and TSQ (Triage Skills Questionnaire). <strong>Result:</strong> There is a relationship between knowledge and triage skills in nurses with p value 0,015 and no relationship between nurses’ perceptions and triage skills with p value 0,063. <strong>Conclusion:</strong> Good knowledge for nurses can help nurses in carrying out triage actions properly so that they motivate nurses to categorize patients correctly based on the level of emergency. Training, seminar or long-life learning on triage will be able to assist nurses in improving nurses triage skills in the emergency department.</p> Emil Huriani Ilfa Khairina Yola Fitria Copyright (c) 2022 Indonesian Contemporary Nursing Journal 2022-08-30 2022-08-30 1 7 10.20956/icon.v7i1.19680 The Characteristic of Parents and Elementary School Students in Offline Learning during The Covid-19 Pandemic in Indonesia <p><strong>Introduction:</strong> The government has issued a new policy to hold face-to-face meetings at schools in July 2021 following the decreased of positive confirmed cases of COVID-19 in children, increasing public discipline in health protocols implementation and most teachers have been vaccinated. However, the parents still worry about the spread of COVID-19 in school which creates anxiety for parents. <strong>Method:</strong> This study used a quantitative method with a cross-sectional survey approach. The population in this study were all parents of elementary school students (SD) in Indonesia. The sampling technique is non-probability sampling with a consecutive sampling approach where the researcher distributes the instrument online on social media. Data collection will be carried out in Sep – Nov 2022.<strong>Result:</strong> The majority of children who participated in offline learning were in grade 1-3 (76; 57.1%). The majority of education level of mothers (95; 70.9%) and fathers (95; 70.9%) were high education. Most of mothers (73; 54.5%) and fathers (103; 76.8%) had income more than three million rupiah. Most children participated in offline learning in July-December 2021 (85; 63.4%). Offline learning was held in 1-3 times a week (61; 45.5%) that occurs in 1-3 hours for day (68;50.7%). <strong>Conclusion:</strong> The implementation of offline learning is mostly held after June 2022, but there were several students who participated since 2020. Kadar Erfina Erfina Copyright (c) 2022 Indonesian Contemporary Nursing Journal 2022-08-30 2022-08-30 8 15 10.20956/icon.v7i1.18704 The Effects of Progressive Muscle Relaxation on the Level of Anxiety in Nurses Caring for Patients with Covid-19 <p><strong>Introduction</strong>: One of the psychological responses encountered by nurses who treat COVID-19 patients is anxiety. The anxiety is caused by several factors including feelings of unsupported, worrying excessively about health, fear of carrying the infection and transmitting it to family members or others, a heavy workload, social stigmatization, feeling insecure for providing care. Moreover, this psychological problem caused low quality of health services for patients. Therefore, to reduce the anxiety of nurses who took care for Covid-19 patients, anxiety management using progressive muscle relaxation was needed. The purpose of this study is to assess the effect of progressive muscle relaxation on the level of anxiety in nurses caring for patients with Covid-19. <strong>Method:</strong> The research design used in this study was quasi-experimental, namely pre-test and post-test with control group design with purposive sampling technique. The number of samples is 52 nurses. The research instrument used the Zung Self-Rating Anxiety Scale (SRAS) questionnaire. The paired T Test is applied for statistical analysis. <strong>Result: </strong>the result of this study indicated that progressive muscle relaxation had a substantial effect on the level anxiety in nurses caring for patients with Covid-19 in the intervention group with a P-<em>value</em> 0.000 (P <em>value</em> &lt; 0,005). <strong>Conclusion:</strong> Progressive muscle relaxation therapy is a complementary therapy that can be done independently by nurses and is effective in reducing anxiety.</p> Yori Yolanda Irfan Said Tati Suryati Ria Simanungkalit Copyright (c) 2022 Indonesian Contemporary Nursing Journal 2022-08-30 2022-08-30 16 24 10.20956/icon.v7i1.18789 Nurses' Knowledge about Diabetes Foot Ulcer Prevention and Treatment: An Integrative Review <p><strong>Introduction:</strong> Diabetic Foot Ulcer (DFU) is a complication often experienced by patients with Diabetes Mellitus (DM). Evidence-based prevention and treatment in DM patients who are at risk of DFU can reduce the global economic burden. Nurses' knowledge plays an important role in screening, prevention, and proper treatment of DFU. This review identifies evidence of nurses' knowledge about the prevention and treatment of DFU and identify factors related to nurses' knowledge. <strong>Method:</strong> The study applied an integrative review design. The relevant literature were searched from PubMed, CINAHL (EBSCO), Wiley Online Library, ScienceDirect, and ProQuest. The inclusion criteria was articles published in English, peer-reviewed articles, and journals between January 2016 and May 2021, by using keywords; “nurs*”, “diabetic foot*” “knowledge”, "awareness" and "perception". <strong>Result:</strong> There are 10 articles met the inclusion criteria and eligible to review. Nurses have low knowledge about diabetic foot care and also have limited knowledge about the characteristics and complications of DFU. Factors related to nurses' knowledge about DFU prevention and treatment; training, educational qualifications, work experience, educational institutions, and age. <strong>Conclusion:</strong> This review revealed that nurses experienced a significant knowledge deficit in several aspects regarding the prevention and treatment of DFU. So that new effective education and training must be developed to address the knowledge gap, one of which is the online training method utilizing telenursing-based electronic learning (e-learning).</p> Hasdi Hasdi Syahrul Syahrul Saldy Yusuf Copyright (c) 2022 Indonesian Contemporary Nursing Journal 2022-08-31 2022-08-31 25 35 10.20956/icon.v7i1.20769 Analytical Description of Non-Nursing Task Performed by Nurses in Hospital of Baubau City <p><strong>Introduction:</strong> Outside of nursing actions that are carried out in accordance with the professionalism of the nursing profession, there are actions that are carried out outside the realm of the nursing profession known as non-nursing task. Non-nursing measures have been shown to increase the risk of missed or delayed nursing care. The purpose of this study was to describe non-nursing task performed by nurses in the Baubau City General Hospital. <strong>Method:</strong> This research is a quantitative research using descriptive analytical survey analysis method which is used to describe the phenomena or events that are analyzed according to the data in one measurement without giving special treatment to the phenomenon to 85 respondents. The sampling method in this study used a purposive sampling technique. <strong>Result:</strong> Cleaning the patient's room and equipment is the most frequent non-nursing task by respondents with 33 respondents (38.8%) answering often and routine blood sampling for tests as many as 32 (37.6%) respondents stating often, while the act of providing care outside the scope of nursing, there were 5 respondents answered "always". <strong>Conclusion:</strong> It was found that there are several non-nursing tasks that are still often carried out by nurses at the Baubau city general hospital, and the act of providing care outside the scope of nursing is still always carried out by nurses.Therefore, it is hoped that the awareness of nurses to limit themselves to doing actions in accordance with the main tasks and duties of nurses.</p> Ade Safar Rini Rachmawaty Andriani Andriani Copyright (c) 2022 Indonesian Contemporary Nursing Journal 2022-08-31 2022-08-31 36 43 10.20956/icon.v7i1.21729
