1. General Information

SENSISTEK: Research of Science and Ocean Technology accepts original scholarly manuscripts related to marine science, maritime technology, ocean engineering, and other fields included in the journal’s focus and scope.

Manuscripts may be written in English or Indonesian. Authors are strongly encouraged to use clear, concise, and academically appropriate language. Manuscripts written in Indonesian must comply with standard Indonesian grammar, while manuscripts written in English must use consistent academic English.

Authors must prepare their manuscripts using the official SENSISTEK article template available on the journal website. Manuscripts that do not follow the journal template and submission requirements may be returned to the authors before entering the peer-review process.

2. Types of Articles

SENSISTEK accepts the following types of manuscripts:

Original Research Articles

Articles presenting original research findings supported by a clear research problem, appropriate methodology, systematic analysis, results, discussion, and conclusions.

Review Articles

Articles that critically examine and synthesize previous studies on a specific topic related to marine science, ocean technology, maritime engineering, fisheries, coastal development, or other relevant fields.

Case Studies

Articles presenting practical cases, field observations, engineering evaluations, operational problems, or applications of technology in the marine and maritime sectors.

Technical Notes

Concise articles describing technical developments, engineering methods, experimental procedures, preliminary findings, computational models, prototypes, or innovative applications.

3. Originality and Submission Requirements

Submitted manuscripts must meet the following requirements:

The manuscript must be original and must not have been previously published.
The manuscript must not be simultaneously submitted to or under review by another journal.
The manuscript must be relevant to the focus and scope of SENSISTEK.
The manuscript must be free from plagiarism, data fabrication, data falsification, duplicate publication, and other forms of academic misconduct.
All individuals listed as authors must have made substantial contributions to the research and preparation of the manuscript.
All authors must approve the final version of the manuscript before submission.
Authors must obtain the necessary ethical approval, research permits, informed consent, or institutional authorization where applicable.
Authors must disclose any financial, institutional, professional, or personal conflicts of interest related to the research.

Submitted manuscripts may be screened using plagiarism-detection software before being processed further.

4. Manuscript Preparation

Manuscripts must be submitted in an editable Microsoft Word format and prepared using the official SENSISTEK template.

Authors must ensure that:

The manuscript is complete and clearly organized;
The title, authors’ names, affiliations, and corresponding author information are accurate;
Figures, tables, equations, and references are properly numbered;
All cited references are included in the reference list;
All references listed at the end of the manuscript are cited in the text;
The manuscript uses consistent terminology, symbols, abbreviations, and units; and
International System of Units or SI units are used wherever applicable.

5. Manuscript Structure

Research articles should generally follow the standard IMRaD structure, consisting of Introduction, Methods, Results, and Discussion.

The recommended manuscript structure is as follows:

5.1 Title

The title must be concise, informative, and clearly represent the main subject of the research. Avoid unnecessary abbreviations, overly general expressions, and excessively long titles.

5.2 Author Names and Affiliations

The manuscript must include:

Full names of all authors;
Institutional affiliations;
Department, faculty, university or institution;
City and country;
Email address of the corresponding author; and
ORCID identifier, where available.

The order of the authors must reflect their contributions and must be approved by all authors before submission.

5.3 Abstract

The abstract must provide a concise and complete summary of the manuscript. It should generally contain:

The background or research problem;
The purpose of the study;
The methodology;
The principal results; and
The main conclusion or contribution.

The abstract should be written as a single paragraph and should not contain tables, figures, equations, citations, or unexplained abbreviations.

Manuscripts written in Indonesian should provide abstracts in both Indonesian and English. Manuscripts written in English must include an English abstract, while an Indonesian abstract may also be provided.

5.4 Keywords

Authors must provide between three and five keywords that represent the main topics, methods, variables, or objects discussed in the manuscript.

Keywords should be written in alphabetical order and separated by semicolons.

5.5 Introduction

The Introduction should explain:

The background of the study;
The scientific or practical problem;
Relevant previous studies;
The research gap;
The novelty or contribution of the study; and
The objectives of the research.

The Introduction should not provide an excessively broad literature review. References should be used to demonstrate the current state of knowledge and justify the importance of the research.

5.6 Research Methods

The Research Methods section must describe the procedures used in sufficient detail to allow other researchers to understand, evaluate, and reproduce the study.

This section may include:

Research design;
Study location and period;
Materials and equipment;
Data sources;
Population and samples;
Experimental procedures;
Mathematical or numerical models;
Research variables;
Data collection procedures;
Validation procedures; and
Data analysis methods.

For studies involving human participants, animals, confidential information, or regulated activities, authors must state the ethical approval or permit obtained.

5.7 Results

The Results section must present the principal findings clearly, systematically, and objectively.

Results may be presented using:

Narrative explanations;
Tables;
Figures;
Graphs;
Diagrams;
Photographs; or
Equations.

Authors should avoid repeating all numerical information from tables or figures in the text. The narrative should emphasize the most important findings and patterns.

5.8 Discussion

The Discussion should interpret the research findings and explain their scientific, technical, or practical significance.

The discussion should:

Relate the findings to the research objectives;
Compare the results with previous studies;
Explain similarities or differences;
Discuss the implications of the findings;
Identify the contribution or novelty of the study;
Address limitations where relevant; and
Avoid unsupported claims or conclusions.

The Results and Discussion sections may be presented separately or combined as Results and Discussion, depending on the nature of the research and the journal template.

5.9 Conclusion

The Conclusion must directly answer the research objectives and summarize the principal findings and contributions of the study.

The conclusion should be concise and should not merely repeat the abstract or results. Recommendations for further research or practical application may be included where relevant.

5.10 Acknowledgments

Authors may acknowledge individuals, laboratories, institutions, organizations, or other parties that contributed to the research but do not meet the criteria for authorship.

5.11 Funding Statement

Authors must identify all sources of research funding, financial support, grants, or sponsorship.

When no external funding was received, the authors may state:

This research received no external funding.

5.12 Conflict of Interest

Authors must disclose any conflicts of interest that could influence the research, interpretation, or publication of the manuscript.

When no conflict of interest exists, the authors may state:

The authors declare no conflict of interest.

5.13 Author Contributions

Authors are encouraged to describe the contribution of each author to the study, including activities such as conceptualization, methodology, investigation, data analysis, software development, validation, writing, supervision, and project administration.

5.14 References

The reference list must contain only sources cited in the manuscript. Authors are encouraged to use recent, relevant, and credible references, particularly peer-reviewed journal articles, conference proceedings, standards, books, and official technical documents.

6. Citation and Reference Style

SENSISTEK uses the IEEE citation and reference style.

References must be numbered consecutively according to the order in which they first appear in the manuscript. Citations in the text must be written using square brackets.

Examples:

Marine renewable energy has significant development potential in archipelagic regions [1].

Several previous studies [2]–[5] have investigated the hydrodynamic performance of offshore structures.

The same reference number must be used every time the same source is cited.

Authors should not use author–date citations such as “Smith, 2024” in the main text.

Authors are encouraged to use reference-management software such as Mendeley, Zotero, or EndNote to ensure citation consistency.

7. Tables

Tables must be numbered consecutively according to their order of appearance in the manuscript.

Each table must:

Have a clear and concise title;
Be referred to in the main text;
Present information efficiently;
Use consistent units and decimal places; and
Include explanatory notes where necessary.

Table titles must be placed above the table. Authors should avoid using vertical lines and excessive formatting.

Tables must be editable and should not be submitted as images.

8. Figures and Illustrations

Figures, graphs, diagrams, maps, and photographs must be numbered consecutively according to their order of appearance.

Each figure must:

Have an informative caption;
Be cited in the main text;
Be clear and readable;
Have adequate image resolution;
Use legible labels, symbols, and legends; and
Include the source when reproduced or adapted from another publication.

Figure captions must be placed below the figure.

Authors are responsible for obtaining permission to reproduce copyrighted figures, maps, photographs, or other materials.

9. Equations

Equations must be created using an editable equation editor and numbered consecutively.

All variables and symbols used in an equation must be explained immediately before or after the equation. Authors must use consistent notation and SI units throughout the manuscript.

10. Abbreviations and Symbols

Abbreviations must be defined when they first appear in the abstract and again when they first appear in the main text.

Authors should avoid excessive use of abbreviations. Standard abbreviations and internationally recognized scientific symbols may be used without definition where appropriate.

11. Submission Process

Manuscripts must be submitted electronically through the SENSISTEK online submission system.

During the submission process, authors must:

Register or log in to the journal website;
Complete all required manuscript metadata;
Enter the full names, affiliations, and email addresses of all authors;
Upload the manuscript file using the official template;
Upload supplementary files where applicable;
Confirm that the manuscript complies with the submission checklist; and
Complete the submission process.

The corresponding author is responsible for all communication with the editorial team during submission, peer review, revision, production, and publication.

12. Peer-Review Process

Each submitted manuscript will undergo an initial editorial screening to assess:

Compliance with the journal’s focus and scope;
Completeness of the manuscript;
Compliance with the author instructions;
Originality and plagiarism screening;
Scientific quality; and
General suitability for peer review.

Manuscripts that pass the initial screening will be evaluated by qualified peer reviewers.

Based on the reviewers’ recommendations, a manuscript may receive one of the following decisions:

Accept submission;
Revisions required;
Resubmit for review; or
Decline submission.

The final decision regarding publication is made by the editorial team.

13. Manuscript Revision

Authors who receive a revision decision must submit:

A revised manuscript;
A response to reviewers; and
A clear explanation of the changes made.

Responses to reviewers should be written systematically and respectfully. Each reviewer comment should be answered individually.

Changes in the revised manuscript should be clearly identified according to the editor’s instructions.

14. Proofreading and Production

Accepted manuscripts may undergo copyediting, language editing, formatting, layout preparation, and proofreading.

The corresponding author will be asked to review the final proof before publication. At the proofreading stage, only minor corrections involving typographical errors, formatting, author information, or factual inaccuracies are normally permitted.

Major changes to the content, authorship, data, or conclusions may require additional editorial approval.

15. Article Processing Charges

SENSISTEK applies the following charges:

Article Submission Fee: IDR 0
Article Publication Fee: IDR 500,000 or USD 50

The publication fee is charged only after the manuscript has been accepted for publication.

16. Copyright and License

Authors retain the copyright to their published articles and grant SENSISTEK the right of first publication.

All published articles are distributed under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License (CC BY 4.0).

Under this license, users may copy, distribute, adapt, and reuse the published work for lawful purposes, provided that appropriate credit is given to the authors and the original publication in SENSISTEK is acknowledged.
