Abstract

In recent times, the Philippines has become a central location for scamming in Southeast Asia and even further. Those scams such types as phishing, investment swindles, fake online store job offers, and romantic tricks – find their primary victims among the most unprotected people, which causes great money and moral damage. The harm inflicted is quite significant: economically these crimes bring about considerable financial loss, shake faith in online transactions, and maintain economic instability; socially they spoil trust relationships on the Internet and cause deep long-term suffering for those who were cheated; politically it points to the necessity of more strict measures taken regionally or internationally.

For this research work, a qualitative approach was taken. In scientific research, there is a ‘Columbus egg’ that reveals itself to be a descriptive case study. They affect people greatly both financially and emotionally while at the same time demanding from government bodies stronger rules coupled with widescale public enlightenment programs against them. The solution should be all-embracing: applying modern cybersecurity tools like password managers together with anti-phishing software; adopting stiffer legal frameworks not only nationally but also internationally; carrying out various awareness campaigns among different layers of society.
