Manuscript Submissions

The aim of MONOGATARI: Journal of Literature and Culture is to disseminate scholarly research in the field of literary studies, with a particular emphasis on literature in relation to cultural contexts. The journal provides an academic forum for researchers and practitioners to publish original studies on literary texts, cultural narratives, and interdisciplinary approaches related to literature.

Manuscripts must be submitted electronically through the journal’s online submission system. Authors are required to register on the journal website, log in using their registered account, and follow the step-by-step submission procedures provided by the system. MONOGATARI: Journal of Literature and Culture is an open-access journal and does not charge any submission or publication fees.

After registration, an automatic email will be sent to the registered email address for verification purposes. Authors must complete the email validation process before accessing the submission system. In some cases, verification emails may be directed to spam or junk folders. Authors who experience technical difficulties during registration or submission are advised to contact the editorial team through the journal’s official contact email.

The journal accepts manuscripts written in English or Bahasa Indonesia. All submissions must be relevant to literary studies and aligned with the journal’s focus on literature and culture. Manuscripts that address literature education or film studies are considered only when they demonstrate a clear connection to literary analysis or cultural interpretation.

The length of manuscripts, including references, tables, figures, and appendices, should range from 3,000 to 7,000 words. Submissions that fall outside this range may not be considered for review, except in the case of substantial review articles. Tables and figures are encouraged and must be embedded within the main text. Footnotes are not permitted; however, endnotes may be included when necessary. Supplemental files are not accepted. Authors who wish to provide additional material may include links to external websites.

All submissions must follow APA Style, 7th edition, and are subject to a double-blind peer review process. By submitting a manuscript to this journal, authors agree that their work may be screened using plagiarism-detection software for academic integrity purposes.

Preparing Full-Paper (Research Article) Manuscripts

A research article submitted to the journal should include the following components:

- Abstract. The abstract should not exceed 250 words and must describe the research background, objectives, methods, main findings, and conclusions.
- Keywords. Authors should provide three to five keywords that reflect the main focus of the article.
- Introduction. This section should present the research problem, objectives, and significance of the study.
- Methodology. This section explains the research design, data sources, and analytical methods employed. For theoretical or textual studies, the methodological approach should be clearly stated.
- Results and Discussion. This section presents and interprets the findings in relation to relevant theories and previous studies.
- Conclusion. The conclusion summarizes the main arguments and findings and highlights the contribution of the study.
- Acknowledgements. if applicable.
- References.

Documentation and Referencing

All manuscripts must conform to APA Style, 7th edition (2020), for both in-text citations and reference lists. The author–date citation method must be used, and page numbers should be provided for all direct quotations.

The reference list must be arranged alphabetically by author and should not be numbered. When more than one work by the same author is cited, the earliest publication should be listed first. All contributing authors must be listed in full. Authors are responsible for ensuring that all references cited in the text appear in the reference list and that all bibliographic details are accurate.

Notes, if necessary, must appear as endnotes before the reference list and should be created using reference manager (Mendeley/Zotero).

Style

Authors should refer to the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association (7th ed., 2020) for guidance on academic writing style, including grammar, clarity, bias-free language, punctuation, capitalization, headings, and the use of italics and quotations.

Manuscripts written in English may use either British or American spelling, provided that usage is consistent throughout the text. Authors are strongly advised to use spelling and grammar checking tools prior to submission.

When abbreviating the names of organizations or institutions, authors should spell out the full name at first mention, followed by the abbreviation in parentheses. The abbreviation may be used thereafter.

Originality and Prior Publication

Manuscripts submitted to MONOGATARI: Journal of Literature and Culture must be original works that have not been published previously and are not under consideration for publication elsewhere.

Articles derived from conference papers, theses, dissertations, or materials previously distributed through institutional repositories or personal platforms must be substantially revised prior to submission. Authors are required to disclose the publication or distribution history of the manuscript in a note to the editor. For manuscripts based on theses or dissertations, authors should state the awarding institution, year of submission, and supervisor.

Manuscripts that have appeared in conference proceedings or other non-peer-reviewed publications should acknowledge this prior dissemination. The editorial board reserves the right to determine the eligibility of such manuscripts for publication.
