Author Guidelines

Hasanuddin Notary Journal is an open access, peer-reviewed journal published by the Master of Notarial Law Program, Faculty of Law, Hasanuddin University. Please read these guidelines carefully before submitting a manuscript.

1. Scope

The journal publishes original research on notarial law, authentic deeds, the legal responsibility and ethics of notaries, land and property law related to notarial practice, and technology in notarial services. See the Aims and Scope page for details.

2. Language

Manuscripts must be written in clear, grammatically correct English. Authors are responsible for the language quality of their manuscript before submission. Poor language may lead to rejection.

3. Types of Articles

  • Original Research Article: unpublished research. A length of up to 8,000 words is recommended, excluding tables, figures, and references.
  • Review Article: a critical examination of a legal issue, a conceptual discussion, or a synthesis of case law and legislation.
  • Editorial: a short invited commentary by the Editor-in-Chief or a member of the Editorial Board.

4. Before You Submit

  • The work is original and is not under review elsewhere.
  • The topic fits the scope of the journal.
  • The English is clear and free of errors.
  • Footnotes and the bibliography follow the Chicago Manual of Style.
  • The manuscript uses the journal template (see the Manuscript Template page).
  • All authors have approved the submission.

Manuscripts that do not meet these requirements may be returned to the authors or rejected before review.

5. Submission Declaration

Submission means that the work has not been published before (except as an abstract, a lecture, or a thesis), is not being considered by another journal, and has been approved by all authors and by the institution where the work was carried out. After acceptance, the article may not be published again in any form or language without written permission from the copyright holder.

Manuscripts must be submitted online through this website. Please register as an author, log in, and follow the on-screen steps. Only a listed author may submit a manuscript. • Authors: full first and last names, without academic titles or positions.
  • Affiliation: department, faculty, university, city, and country.
  • Corresponding author: mark with an asterisk and give an email address.

9. Abstract

The abstract must not exceed 200 words. It must have five parts: purpose, method, results, findings, and conclusion. Do not use citations or footnotes in the abstract.

10. Keywords

Provide up to six keywords, separated by semicolons.

11. Introduction

Explain the background of the problem, review the most relevant literature, state the gap or controversy that the study addresses, and give the research questions or objectives.

12. Methods

Describe the research type (for example normative, empirical, or comparative legal research), the approach, the legal materials or data used, and how they were collected and analysed. Justify the method so that readers can judge its validity.

13. Results and Discussion

Present the findings in relation to the research questions, interpret them legally and scientifically, and compare them with other studies and with relevant legislation and case law. Do not simply repeat the results.

14. Conclusions

Answer the research questions and explain what the study adds to the field. Do not repeat the abstract. Suggestions for policy, practice, and future research may be included.

15. Author Contributions

For manuscripts with more than one author, describe the role of each author, for example conceptualisation, research, analysis, and writing. Authorship is limited to those who made a substantial contribution.

16. Declaration of Competing Interest

Declare any personal or financial interest that could influence the research, or state that there is none. The corresponding author confirms that all co-authors have made this declaration.

17. Acknowledgements and Funding

Thank supervisors, proofreaders, and other people who helped. List all sources of funding. If the funder had no role in the study, please state this.

18. References

  • Use the Chicago Manual of Style (notes and bibliography): numbered footnotes in the text and an alphabetical bibliography at the end.
  • Every source cited in a footnote must appear in the bibliography, and the reverse.
  • Do not list unpublished results or personal communications in the bibliography.
  • A reference manager such as Zotero, Mendeley, or EndNote is recommended.

19. Tables and Figures

  • Cite every table and figure in the text and number them in order.
  • Tables: number and title above the table, horizontal lines only, no vertical lines.
  • Figures: number and title below the figure. Figures must be sharp and legible.

20. Footnotes

The journal uses footnotes for citations. Number them consecutively. Explanatory footnotes should be few and short.

21. Initial Evaluation and Peer Review

The editorial office first checks the manuscript for scope, format, and ethics, including a similarity (plagiarism) check. Manuscripts that pass are sent for double-blind peer review. The Editorial Board makes the final decision based on the reviewers' recommendations.

22. Revised Manuscripts

Upload three files: the revised manuscript with tracked changes, a clean revised manuscript, and a point-by-point response to the reviewers.

23. Proofs

The corresponding author receives a PDF proof by email. Proofs are only for checking typesetting and accuracy. Please return all corrections in one message within seven days.

24. Publication Ethics

Authors must ensure that the work is original and free of plagiarism. Plagiarised manuscripts are rejected. See the Publication Ethics page for details.

25. Supplementary Materials

Supplementary files are allowed. Each file must carry the article title, journal name, author names, and the corresponding author's email. Supplementary files are published as submitted, without editing.

26. Article Publishing Charges

The journal does not charge submission fees or article processing charges. All articles are free to read and download.

Submission Preparation Checklist

All submissions must meet the following requirements.

  • The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
  • The submission file is in OpenOffice, Microsoft Word, or RTF document file format.
  • Where available, URLs for the references have been provided.
