Abstract

The limited number of published case reports in the field of psychology has been a challenge for psychologists, lecturers, and students in professional psychology programs. The main obstacles in writing and publishing case reports include a lack of scientific writing skills, limited access to experienced mentors, and minimal understanding of the journal publication process. To address this, a writing mentoring program is proposed as a solution to improve the quality and quantity of publications. This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of a writing mentoring program in increasing case report publications among psychologists, lecturers, and students. This program involved 140 participants in the initial session of the activity, which were then selected to 20 participants, each having cases ready to be made into publication manuscripts. The program comprised two main stages: a workshop featuring experts in psychology and group mentoring sessions where participants are guided by these experts in small groups. After the workshop, participants were required to submit their manuscripts to the Gadjah Mada Journal of Professional Psychology (GamaJPP). Mentoring or writing guidance programs have been shown to be effective in improving writing skills and the number of case report publications among psychologists, lecturers, and students. These findings suggest the potential of such programs as a strategy to increase publication productivity, especially in case report writing. However, limitations such as variation in study design and lack of long-term evaluation indicate the need for further research with more consistent methodology and ongoing evaluation. This review also identifies gaps in the literature and provides directions for future research to optimize the effectiveness of similar programs.
