Abstract

This study was conducted from May to October 2024 with the aim of analyzing the effect of Sea Surface Temperature (SST) and chlorophyll-a concentration (CHL) on the migration patterns of skipjack tuna (Katsuwonus pelamis) in Bone Bay, Luwu Regency. Primary data consisted of skipjack tuna catch data, geographic coordinates, and on-site SST measurements, collected by directly following fishing operations using fishing gear. Secondary data included satellite imagery from Sentinel-3 that included SST, CHL, and current velocity (CUR). The results showed that SST ranged from 29 to 31°C, with a significant relationship indicated by a p-value <0.005, especially at 31.0°C, while the lowest influence was observed around 30.5°C with a p-value <0.001. Based on the CHL parameter, the most influential relationship was found at a concentration of 0.5–0.7 mg/m³ with a p-value >0.005 and the lowest at 0.4 mg/m³. The best model based on AIC and CDE values was a combination of SST and CHL. However, partially, only SST had a significant effect on catches (p <0.05), while CHL was not statistically significant (p >0.05). This indicates that sea surface temperature is the most dominant oceanographic factor affecting fish catches.
