Abstract

The profession of judge plays a central role in law enforcement and justice under the Indonesian Judiciary. In addition to legal expertise, this profession demands high moral integrity, including honesty, courage, and independence. The independence of the judiciary must be balanced with accountability to create dignified judges. This study aims to examine the urgency of strengthening the integrity and accountability of judges through a legal literature study approach. The study found that perceptions of justice are often influenced by social position, even though the principle of equality before the law is guaranteed by Article 28D(1) of the 1945 Constitution. The novelty of this study lies in the idea of harmonising justice in three dimensions law, morality, and social justice as well as the assertion that justice must be the top priority over human rights issues or legalistic aspects alone. The conclusion shows that integrity and accountability are the main foundations for building a fair and dignified judiciary that effectively protects the rights of citizens
