Journal Policies

Maritime Park: Journal of Maritime Technology and Society is committed to maintaining high standards of scholarly publishing, research integrity, transparency, editorial independence, and responsible dissemination of scientific knowledge. The following policies govern the editorial, peer-review, publication, and post-publication processes of the journal.

1. Peer Review Policy

Maritime Park applies a double-anonymous peer-review process, in which the identities of both authors and reviewers are kept confidential throughout the review process.

Every submitted manuscript is initially evaluated by the editorial team to determine its relevance to the journal's aims and scope, originality, scientific quality, methodological adequacy, ethical compliance, and conformity with the journal's submission requirements. Manuscripts that do not meet the journal's basic editorial or scientific standards may be declined without external review.

Manuscripts that pass the initial editorial screening are normally evaluated by at least two independent reviewers with appropriate expertise in the relevant field. Reviewers are selected based on their academic qualifications, research experience, subject expertise, and absence of conflicts of interest.

Reviewers are expected to evaluate manuscripts with regard to:

  • Originality and scientific contribution;
  • Relevance to the journal's aims and scope;
  • Clarity of research objectives;
  • Appropriateness of the research methodology;
  • Validity of results and analysis;
  • Quality of discussion and interpretation;
  • Use of relevant and current literature;
  • Clarity and organization of the manuscript; and
  • Significance of the findings for research, engineering practice, industry, policy, environment, or society.

Based on reviewers' reports and editorial assessment, a manuscript may receive one of the following decisions: Accept Submission, Revisions Required, Resubmit for Review, or Decline Submission.

When reviewer recommendations differ substantially, the editor may seek an additional independent review before making a final decision. Revised manuscripts may be returned to the original reviewers when further evaluation is considered necessary.

Reviewers must treat manuscripts as confidential documents and must not disclose, distribute, discuss, or use unpublished information obtained during peer review for personal or professional advantage. Reviewers must also disclose any potential conflict of interest and decline a review when an impartial assessment cannot reasonably be provided.

2. Publication Ethics and Malpractice Statement

Maritime Park is committed to maintaining the integrity of the scholarly record and promoting responsible research and publication practices. The journal's ethical policies are guided by internationally recognized principles of publication ethics, including the core practices promoted by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE).

Responsibilities of Authors

Authors must submit original work that has not been previously published and is not simultaneously under consideration by another journal. Authors are responsible for the accuracy, integrity, authenticity, and ethical conduct of the research presented in their manuscripts.

All sources, data, ideas, figures, tables, and other intellectual contributions obtained from other works must be properly acknowledged. Fabrication, falsification, plagiarism, duplicate publication, inappropriate image manipulation, misleading reporting, and other forms of research misconduct are unacceptable.

Responsibilities of Editors

Editors evaluate manuscripts on the basis of academic merit, originality, methodological quality, relevance, and scholarly significance. Editorial decisions must not be influenced by an author's nationality, institutional affiliation, gender, religious belief, political view, or other personal characteristics.

Editors must protect manuscript confidentiality, disclose relevant conflicts of interest, and recuse themselves from handling manuscripts when their impartiality could reasonably be questioned.

Responsibilities of Reviewers

Reviewers must provide objective, constructive, evidence-based, and respectful assessments. Confidential information obtained through peer review must not be disclosed or used for personal or professional advantage.

Research Misconduct

Allegations of plagiarism, fabrication, falsification, duplicate publication, inappropriate authorship, undisclosed conflicts of interest, unethical research, manipulated peer review, or other forms of misconduct will be investigated by the editorial team.

Appropriate actions may include requesting clarification or supporting documentation, rejecting a manuscript, correcting the scholarly record, issuing an expression of concern, or retracting a published article.

3. Plagiarism Policy

All manuscripts submitted to Maritime Park must represent original scholarly work. Plagiarism includes the unattributed use of another person's words, ideas, data, figures, tables, methods, analyses, or other intellectual contributions.

Submitted manuscripts may be screened using similarity-detection software. Similarity reports are evaluated by the editorial team, and the similarity percentage alone is not used as the sole basis for determining whether plagiarism has occurred.

Manuscripts containing substantial plagiarism, inappropriate duplication, or unattributed reproduction of previously published material may be rejected. Authors are also expected to avoid inappropriate self-plagiarism and redundant publication.

If plagiarism or significant duplication is identified after publication, Maritime Park may issue a correction, expression of concern, or retraction depending on the nature and seriousness of the case.

4. AI Use Policy

Maritime Park recognizes the increasing use of artificial intelligence and generative AI tools in research and scholarly communication. Such technologies must be used responsibly, transparently, ethically, and under full human supervision.

Artificial intelligence tools cannot be listed as authors because they cannot take responsibility for the accuracy, integrity, originality, ethical compliance, or final content of a scholarly work.

Authors remain fully responsible for all content submitted to the journal, including text, data, analyses, references, figures, images, code, interpretations, and conclusions produced or modified with assistance from AI tools.

The substantive use of generative AI for generating or significantly modifying manuscript text, images, code, data analysis, or scientific interpretation must be transparently disclosed in the manuscript, including the name of the tool and the purpose for which it was used.

Routine spelling, grammar, and language-editing tools generally do not require disclosure when they do not generate substantive scientific content.

Editors and reviewers must protect manuscript confidentiality and should not upload unpublished manuscripts, confidential reviewer reports, or identifiable research data into publicly accessible generative AI systems.

5. Authorship and Conflict of Interest Policy

Authorship should be limited to individuals who have made substantial intellectual contributions to the conception or design of the study; acquisition, analysis, or interpretation of data; preparation or critical revision of the manuscript; and who accept responsibility for the final published work.

All listed authors must approve the submitted manuscript and the final version accepted for publication. Individuals who contributed to the research but do not meet the criteria for authorship should be appropriately acknowledged.

Guest authorship, honorary authorship, gift authorship, and ghost authorship are not permitted.

Requests to add, remove, or change the order of authors after submission must be accompanied by a clear explanation and agreement from all affected authors. The editorial team reserves the right to request additional documentation when necessary.

Authors, reviewers, and editors must disclose any financial, personal, professional, institutional, or other relationship that could reasonably be perceived as influencing the research, peer review, or editorial decision.

7. Open Access Policy

Maritime Park is an open-access journal. All published articles are made freely and immediately available to readers without subscription or access charges.

The journal supports the principle that making research freely available contributes to wider dissemination, visibility, accessibility, and exchange of scientific knowledge.

Readers may access, download, read, copy, share, distribute, and reuse published articles in accordance with the terms of the journal's Creative Commons license.

8. Article Processing Charge (APC)

Maritime Park: Journal of Maritime Technology and Society is committed to supporting the dissemination of high-quality research through open-access publishing. To support journal management, editorial processes, digital publishing, and the availability of published articles, the following charges apply.

No fee is charged at the manuscript submission stage. The Article Processing Charge is applicable only after a manuscript has successfully completed the editorial and peer-review processes and has received a formal acceptance decision from the journal.

Payment of the Article Processing Charge does not influence editorial or peer-review decisions. All manuscripts are evaluated solely on the basis of their originality, scientific quality, methodological rigor, relevance to the journal's aims and scope, and overall scholarly contribution.

Payment Confirmation

After completing the payment, authors should send proof of payment to: maritimepark@unhas.ac.id.

Important Notes

  1. The Article Processing Charge is payable only after the manuscript has received a formal acceptance decision.
  2. Maritime Park will never request payment of an Article Processing Charge before a manuscript has been formally accepted for publication.
  3. Payment does not guarantee acceptance and has no influence on the peer-review or editorial decision-making process.
  4. Authors are encouraged to submit payment confirmation promptly after acceptance to avoid unnecessary delays in the production and publication process.

9. Archiving and Digital Preservation Policy

Maritime Park is committed to supporting the long-term accessibility and preservation of its published scholarly content.

Published articles, metadata, and journal records are maintained through the journal's electronic publishing platform and institutional infrastructure. Appropriate backup and preservation procedures are used to reduce the risk of data loss and support continued access to published content.

The journal supports the use of recognized digital preservation and repository systems where available through its publishing infrastructure. Persistent identifiers, including Digital Object Identifiers (DOIs), are used to support long-term identification, citation, and discoverability of published articles.

10. Repository Policy

Maritime Park supports responsible self-archiving and encourages authors to increase the accessibility, visibility, and dissemination of their research.

Authors may deposit their manuscripts and published articles in institutional repositories, subject repositories, academic websites, or other appropriate scholarly platforms in accordance with the terms of the journal's Creative Commons license.

When depositing the published version, authors should provide the complete citation and DOI or official URL of the article published in Maritime Park.

11. Corrections, Retractions and Complaints Policy

Corrections

When an error is identified in a published article that affects its accuracy, interpretation, metadata, or scholarly record but does not invalidate the main conclusions, the journal may publish a correction notice linked to the original article.

Retractions

An article may be retracted when there is reliable evidence of major error, fabrication, falsification, plagiarism, duplicate publication, unethical research, compromised peer review, or other serious misconduct that substantially undermines the reliability or integrity of the publication.

Retraction notices will clearly identify the affected article and explain the reason for the retraction. The scholarly record will be preserved whenever possible.

Expressions of Concern

The journal may issue an expression of concern when serious questions have been raised about a published article but the available evidence is inconclusive or an investigation is still ongoing.

Complaints and Appeals

Authors, reviewers, readers, and other stakeholders may submit complaints or appeals concerning editorial procedures, publication ethics, peer review, or editorial decisions. Complaints and appeals should provide a clear explanation and relevant supporting information.

Appeals concerning editorial decisions will be reviewed independently whenever possible. Submission of an appeal does not guarantee that the original editorial decision will be changed.

Maritime Park is committed to handling complaints, appeals, corrections, expressions of concern, and retractions fairly, transparently, confidentially, and in accordance with recognized principles of publication ethics.
