Publication Ethics

ETNOSIA: Jurnal Etnografi Indonesia is an open access journal, peer-reviewed, and judged based on international publication standards. Article topics may include but are not limited to socio-cultural anthropology, fields of anthropology, interactionism and symbolism, ethnography of communication, cultural journalism, corporate culture, and netnography.

This scientific publication ethics statement is a statement of the code of ethics of all parties involved in the publication process of this scientific journal, namely managers, editors, bestary partners, and authors. The Code of Ethics for Scientific Publication essentially upholds three ethical values in publication, namely (i) Neutrality, which is free from conflicts of interest in the management of publications; (ii) Justice, which gives authorship rights to those entitled as authors; and (iii) Honesty, which is free from duplication, fabrication, falsification, and plagiarism in publications.

After reading the Scientific Publication Ethics, please download and sign the Ethics Statement and Copyright Agreement. Submit the Ethics Statement with your article. In addition, a Copyright Agreement must be submitted before the article is published. Both can be sent via email.

Duties and Responsibilities of the Journal Manager

  1. Determine the name of the journal, scientific scope, periodicity, and accreditation if needed.
  2. Determine the membership of the editorial board.
  3. Define the relationship between publishers, editors, reviewers, and other parties in a contract.
  4. Respect confidential matters, both for contributing researchers, authors, editors, and bestary partners.
  5. Implement norms and provisions regarding intellectual property rights, especially copyright.
  6. Conduct a review of journal policies and communicate them to authors, the editorial board, bestary partners, and readers.
  7. Establish code of conduct guidelines for editors and reviewers.
  8. Publish the journal regularly.
  9. Ensure the availability of funding sources for the sustainability of journal publishing.
  10. Build a network of cooperation and marketing.
  11. Preparing licenses and other legal aspects.

Duties and Responsibilities of the Editor

  1. Bringing together the needs of readers and authors,
  2. Strive for continuous improvement of publication quality,
  3. Implement a process to ensure the quality of published papers,
  4. Promoting freedom of opinion objectively,
  5. Maintaining the integrity of the author's academic track record,
  6. Submitting corrections, clarifications, withdrawals, and apologies when necessary,
  7. Responsible for the style and format of the paper, while the content and all statements in the paper are the responsibility of the author/writer,
  8. Actively solicit the opinions of authors, readers, bestarial partners, and members of the editorial board to improve the quality of publications,
  9. Encourage the assessment of the journal if there are findings,
  10. Support initiatives to reduce research and publication misconduct by requiring authors to complete an Ethical Statement form,
  11. Support initiatives to educate researchers about publication ethics,
  12. Assess the effect of publication policies on the attitudes of authors and reviewers and improve them to increase responsibility and minimize errors,
  13. Having an open mind to new opinions or views of others that may conflict with personal opinions,
  14. Not maintaining one's own, author's or third party's opinion that may result in a non-objective decision,
  15. Encourage authors/writers, so that they can make improvements to the paper until it is suitable for publication.

Duties and Responsibilities of Bestary Partners

  1. Receive an assignment from the editor to review the paper and submit the results of the review to the editor, as material for determining the eligibility of a paper for publication.
  2. Reviewers may not review papers that involve themselves, either directly or indirectly.
  3. Maintain the author's privacy by not disseminating the results of corrections, suggestions, and recommendations by providing criticism, suggestions, input, and recommendations
  4. Encourage the author/writer to make improvements to the paper
    Reviewing the corrected paper in accordance with predetermined standards.
  5. The paper is reviewed in a timely manner according to the publication's style based on scientific principles (data collection methods, author's legality, conclusions, etc.).

Duties and Responsibilities of Authors

  1. Ensure that those included in the list of authors/writers meet the criteria as authors/writers.
  2. Take collective responsibility for the work and content of the article including methods, analysis, calculations, and details.
  3. State the origin of resources (including funding), either directly or indirectly.
    Explain the limitations of the research
  4. Responding to comments made by the reviewers in a professional and timely manner.
  5. Inform the editor if the paper is to be retracted.
  6. Make a statement that the paper submitted for publication is original, has never been published anywhere in any language, and is not in the process of being submitted to another publisher.
