Article Withdrawal Policy

Jurnal Gizi Masyarakat Indonesia (The Journal of Indonesian Community Nutrition) invests significant editorial time, peer-reviewer effort, and administrative resources into every submitted manuscript. Therefore, authors are discouraged from withdrawing their manuscripts once they have entered the editorial and peer-review process, unless there are compelling scientific or ethical reasons to do so.

1. General Principles

  • Submitting a manuscript to Jurnal Gizi Masyarakat Indonesia constitutes a formal commitment by the author(s) that the work is original, has not been published previously, and is not being simultaneously considered for publication by another journal.

  • Unnecessary or casual withdrawals waste valuable editorial resources and delay the dissemination of scientific knowledge.

2. Withdrawal Before the Peer-Review Process (Pre-Review Stage)

  • Authors may request the withdrawal of their manuscript before it has been sent out for peer review (e.g., during initial desk evaluation by the editorial team).

  • In such cases, withdrawal is permitted without any administrative sanction or penalty, provided the corresponding author submits a formal written request explaining the reason for withdrawal.

3. Withdrawal During or After Peer Review (Under Review / Revision Stage)

  • Withdrawing a manuscript while it is actively undergoing peer review or after peer-review reports have been delivered is strictly discouraged.

  • A manuscript may only be withdrawn at this stage if the authors discover fundamental scientific errors, data inaccuracies, or unresolved authorship disputes that cannot be corrected through standard revisions.

  • Authors must submit a formal Letter of Withdrawal signed by all co-authors, clearly stating the scientific or ethical justification for requesting the withdrawal.

4. Withdrawal of Accepted Manuscripts

  • Once a manuscript has been formally ACCEPTED for publication, withdrawal requests will only be granted under extraordinary circumstances (e.g., discovery of severe data invalidity or legal restrictions).

  • If an author requests a withdrawal after acceptance without a valid ethical or scientific justification, the Editorial Board reserves the right to impose administrative sanctions, such as:

    • Rejection of future submissions from the author(s) to Jurnal Gizi Masyarakat Indonesia for a specified period (e.g., 1–2 years).

    • Issuing a formal notification to the author's institution or research funding agency regarding unethical submission practices.

5. Post-Publication Withdrawal (Published Articles)

  • Once an article has been officially published online and assigned a DOI, it cannot be withdrawn.

  • Any post-publication corrections, cancellations, or removals must follow the journal's official Correction and Retraction Policy (via Erratum, Corrigendum, or formal Retraction Notice).

6. Procedure for Requesting an Article Withdrawal

To request a manuscript withdrawal at any eligible stage, the corresponding author must:

  1. Submit a formal written request via email to the Editor-in-Chief at jgmi@unhas.ac.id.

  2. Include the Manuscript ID, Article Title, and Full Names of All Authors.

  3. Attach a formal Withdrawal Request Letter signed by the corresponding author and all co-authors, detailing the specific reasons for the withdrawal.

  4. Wait for official written confirmation from the Editorial Office. The manuscript is not considered withdrawn until the Editor-in-Chief sends a formal approval notification.
